Positive emotion induction improves cardiovascular coping with a cognitive task
2021
Feeling positive emotions seems to favour an adaptive cardiovascular response (greater heart rate variability, HRV), associated with improved cognitive performance. This study aims to test whether the induction of a positive emotional state produce such cardiovascular response and therefore, enhance coping and performance in Tower of Hanoi (ToH). Forty-two Participants were randomly distributed into two groups (Experimental and Control). Experimental group was subjected to the evocation of a memory of success, while control group was subjected to an attentional task before performing ToH. Heart Rate Variability (HRV), activity of the zygomatic major muscle (ZEMG) and emotions were measured.…

Interpretation of epicardial mapping by means of computer simulations: Applications to calcium, lidocaine and to BRL 34915
1992
The aim of this work was to compare experimental investigations on effects of lidocaine, calcium and, BRL 34915 on reentries to simulated data obtained by use of a model of propagation based on the Huygens' construction method already described in previous works. Calcium and lidocaine effects are investigated on anisotropic conduction conditions. In both cases, reduction in conduction velocities are observed. In lidocaine case, a refractory area is located along the longitudinal axis. In agreement with experimental electrical mapping, the simulations show that the stabilization of reentrant excitation is mainly due to the existence of this refractory area around which the reentrant circuit …
Vitrification of Immature Porcine Oocytes: Effects of Lipid Droplets, Temperature, Cytoskeleton, and Addition and Removal of Cryoprotectant
1998
Three experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of single-step and stepwise exposure to and removal of cryoprotectant, of temperature, and of a cytoskeletal relaxant on the development of germinal vesicle porcine oocytes to the M-II stage. In experiment I, noncooled cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were treated using single-step/stepwise exposure to ethylene glycol (EG) and removal at 23 or 42 degrees C. Stepwise exposure to EG and dilution at 42 degrees C were found to have a positive effect on the COC developmental rate. In experiment II, also without cooling, COCs were treated with Cytochalasin B at 42 degrees C using single-step and stepwise protocols of exposure to and remov…
Three-dimensional structure of hepatitis B virus core particles determined by electron cryomicroscopy
1994
Human hepatitis B virus core protein expressed in E. coli assembles into two sizes of particle. We have determined their three-dimensional structures by electron cryomicroscopy and image processing. The large and small particles correspond to triangulation number T = 4 and T = 3 dimer clustered packings, containing 240 and 180 protein subunits, respectively. The local packing of subunits is very similar in the two sizes of particle and shows holes or channels through the shell. The native viral core particle packages RNA and is active in reverse transcription to DNA. The holes we observe may provide access for the necessary small molecules. Shells assembled from the intact core protein cont…
Structural effects of macrocyclic compounds and their partition in sodium dodecylsulphate aqueous solutions
2003
The partition of 1,4,7,10,13,16-esaoxacyclooctadecane (18C6), 4,7,13,16-tetraoxa-1,10-diazacyclooctadecane (2.2), 2,5,8,11,14,17-esaoxabicyclo[16.4.0]dicosane (B18C6) and 2,5,8,15,18,21-esoxatricyclo[20.4.0.09.14]esacosane (Cy218C6) in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) aqueous solutions and their effect on the structure of surfactant aggregates has been investigated by small-angle neutron scattering. Results from data analysis have shown that by increasing macrocycle concentration the SDS micelles dimensions reduce for all systems investigated. At the same time information on macrocycles partition between the micellar and the continuous phase have been obtained. It was found that an appreciable …

Aminoguanidinium(2+) aminoguanidinium(1+) hexachloroantimonate(III) at 295 and 92 K
2001
The crystal and molecular structure of the title compound, (CH(7)N(4))(CH(8)N(4))[SbCl(6)], has been determined at 295 and 92 K. It is composed of isolated [SbCl(6)](3-) octahedra and aminoguanidinium mono- and dications. One of four of the crystallographically inequivalent aminoguanidinium cations is disordered at both temperatures. Two crystallographically inequivalent [SbCl(6)](3-) octahedra were found to possess three significantly longer Sb-Cl bonds than three other octahedra. The shorter bonds are in the range 2.456 (2)-2.577 (2) A, whereas the longer ones are between 2.705 (2) and 2.931 (2) A. Each short Sb-Cl bond is located trans to a long bond. It is argued that this deformation i…
An improved goniometer head for high-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction
1999
A reliable and inexpensive goniometer head has been designed. Its stability, resulting from its compact construction, makes it very suitable for accurate measurements. Moreover, its space-saving design facilitates its application in X-ray data collection using charge-coupled device (CCD) detectors. This head has been improved for high-temperature measurements and has been tested by comparison of accurate K0.88Rb0.12TiOPO4data collected both at room temperature and at 973 K on the same crystal. The excellent structure results obtained at 973 K during the 360 h of measurements prove the stability of the goniometer head.
